This report presents information about the state of freshman success in Arkansas. We provide the likelihoods of passing all courses based on a pooled analysis of 2020-21 and 2021-22 freshmen. The report also includes descriptive information about failure rates by student groups and the courses freshman are most likely to fail.
In the likelihood analyses, we control for student demographic and programmatic characteristics, student disciplinary infractions, student absences, prior academic achievement from ACT Aspire Math and ELA scores from 8th grade, and district characteristics. We use Free or Reduced-Price Lunch status as a proxy for poverty and economically disadvantaged students.
